Riding Since: 1975

First Skateboard: Borrowed friend's board for first 6 months (plywood, clay wheels) then bought an EZ-Rider from Pay-n-Save (solid fiberglass deck, no-name trucks, urethane wheels with loose ball bearings!).

Current Quiver: TS - Roe foam/carbon Crossfire stiff, Hybrid - Roe bullet foam/carbon med-stiff, GS - Roe SlingBlade medium. On both setups I use PVD3 rear, Radikal front, Retro ZigZags, Biltin bearings, TNR footstop.

Race Set-Ups: Same as minimal quiver. Soon to be a RoeRacing "Custom" model with Seismics and Abec 11 Flashbacks.

Best Skateboard Memory: My first ride on urethane wheels. Downhilling aboard my Santa Cruz slalom board on fresh blacktop, face-first on my stomach using leather patches on my hands as brakes. Cranking a perfect set of 360's to a standstill. Riding a plexiglass half-pipe at the Capitol Lakefair parade as it is being towed behind a car and hitting the streetlight on a backside air.

Favorite Race Event: San Francisco 2002 Battle By the Bay - my first race and first time really pushing it on a board in over 22 years.

Favorite Food: That first cup of morning coffee on the weekend - just when it reaches that short-lived perfect temperature.

FCR Battle of the Bay 2002 in San Francisco, after 6 months off a board finished 2nd in the Dual Slalom and 1st in the GS. Morro World Champs 2002-5th in TS, knocked out by some guy called Dong. Winning the Amateur GS in the Antibes World Cup 2004 in a breathtaking setting by a big margin on a RoeRacing deck of my own design! - Thanks Steve Hopper!

Riding Since: 1977

First Skateboard: Grentec Coyote. I did lay down speed on it down hills with my buddy Paul Price, because we couldnıt stand up on them and it was less far to fall... Had to stop using it because one day the back wheels melted on to my jeans!

Current Quivers:
Various RoeRacing prototypes in my own shape from 28 to 34 inches. Some vintage Turners, and some old prototypes. A G & S Longboard signed by everyone who was at the first Morro Bay (no I donıt ride it!). An original restored Ick Stick and a board cut from a Santa Cruz blank.

Best Skateboard Memory: Old- The long hot (by British standards i.e. no rain) summer of 1979 skating everyday with my crew-Paul Price, Michael Stride, Floyd Reid, Ed Brockman, Dobie, Frank Wheeler, Phil Burgoyne, Chris Charalambous and Master of the 4ft straight, Martin Sweeney! AND- Going with the same bunch to the European Champs in Paris in 1980 and Tarby, Sweden in 1987, both unforgettable! Recent- Standing at La Costa racing with my teenage heroes Hester, Skoldberg, Olson, Hackett, Peters. Then someone taps me on the shoulder and asks if I am Martin Drayton. I turn around and it is Bobby Turner I was speechless!

Favorite Race Event: Henry Hester's La Costa Open 2001. Started off with cute teenage cone heads offering to carry my bags as I parked, two brilliant days of racing at a venue I never dreamed I would see, topped off by meeting Bobby Turner!

Favorite Food: Watermelon to start then every Trinidadians favorite, Roti and Curry, washed down by a drink of Sorrell (adding Rum is optional)!

Favorite Pre-Ride Music: British Electronic band Hybrid, Diam (French female Rapper), Tupac, Thin Lizzy and Sounds of Blackness.

Gary Fluitt:

Age: 43 going on 72

Hometown: Golden, Colorado

Occupation: Impostor

Skating Highlights: Winning the 2004 World Slalom Championship (Hybrid) in Morro Bay. Winning at Luna and the Farm a few years back when I didn't expect to skate cause of ACL surgery. Podiums in Paris. Getting a second chance at the sport of my youth. Back in the 70's I rode for Sims, Madrid, and a bunch of little surf shop teams. Competed in California and Colorado. I won the Capitola Classic Am Division in 79'. Raced old school downhill with Hickey and Hutson around that time. In 1984 Jack Smith, Paul Dunn, Bob Denike, and I skated from Oregon to Virginia to raise money for Multiple Sclerosis. That ride was a world record for 20 years (Jack set the new record in 2003). But I think 2006 is going to have the best highlights!

Riding Since: 1973

First Skateboard: I had this Hobbie Sundancer thing. A weird two wheeled
contraption that didn't turn very well.

for GS. Wheels= Seismic and ZigZags.

For TS: 29" Nina Hester model with heavy wedge front truck (Seismic or Indy) and the same truck as the GS setup on the rear. Favorite Race Event: Probably the Hang Ten even though I really don't like TS that much. I was very nervous in the finals and had to pick up .7 on my final run. At the time, I didn't realize how many people would see the event across the world (10-20 million?).

Though Iım still not sure if everyone just sucked, or I realized that I still had it after all these years...the jury's still out on that one...that and 1st at Hood River's Gorge Games in 2004, which was my first podium in 25 years.

Favorite Race Event: Hmmm, tough one...probably Da Farm in NY for TS, because win or lose, there's a world-class party afterwards in your honor....For hybrid, Breckenridge, Co...nothing like mandatory powerslides through offsets at 25 mph...and for GS, this year's World Championships in Morro Bay was by far the most fun I've ever had on a race courseŠit was like the best amusement park ride you will ever be on.
